This page explains how the United Kingdom comparison catalogue is assembled, what the labels mean, what is deliberately not inferred, and how to check an option before buying. It is part of the service’s transparency record, not veterinary advice.
Specifeed is an independent search and comparison service. It does not manufacture pet food, fill prescriptions or decide what is clinically suitable for an individual animal. Product and brand pages help you investigate options; the retailer and the current physical pack remain the final sources for purchase details.
A product record describes the recipe or pack identity. A listing is a specific retailer offer for that product, with its own URL, price, stock signal and variant wording. Keeping those concepts separate prevents a multipack, a different size or a different retailer page from being presented as the same offer.
Species, food form, life stage, diet signals, protein and pack evidence are normalized when the source supports them. If a field cannot be established reliably, Specifeed leaves it unconfirmed. A brand name, a marketing phrase or a similar product is not used as proof of a missing fact.
Specifeed’s useful output is not simply a list of names copied from a retailer. The comparison layer joins product identity to offer-level evidence, keeps source fields visible, and makes its limitations clear. These are the checks that matter most to an owner deciding whether a result is worth opening.
Search uses explicit catalogue fields such as species, diet category, form, life stage, brand, retailer, stock and price. Invalid or stale URL parameters are rejected or ignored safely. The public result unit is normally a product family, while pack variants remain available for inspection.
Best fit is rule-based and deterministic. It gives priority to explicit suitability signals, exclusions, life stage, form, verification and availability before secondary shopping signals. Recommendations use the current search context and family similarity; they do not use private browsing history, favourites or cross-site behaviour to create hidden personalization.
Some retailer or brand links may earn a commission at no extra cost to the visitor. Commercial status is disclosed near buying actions and in the site footer. A commercial link does not turn a missing fact into a confirmed fact, and affiliate availability is not a reason to hide a safer or more relevant comparison result.
Words such as renal, urinary, hypoallergenic, hydrolysed, gastrointestinal and prescription are useful ways to find records, but they are not a diagnosis and do not prove that a food is right for a particular pet. A veterinary professional should guide changes for symptoms, diagnosed disease, medication, elimination trials, puppies or kittens, and any prescription diet. Check the exact current label, feeding instructions, complete or complementary status, ingredients and retailer requirements before purchase.
Specifeed also does not promise that every manufacturer product or every retailer offer is present. Coverage depends on lawful source access, available product information, successful parsing, verification and regional catalogue health. Missing coverage is a reason to report or request a source, not a reason to assume that no alternative exists.
General nutrition and labelling context should be read in the original guidance. Brand pages remain brand-published material; Specifeed’s role is to add a transparent comparison layer around the exact records it can verify.
