Privacy Policy
Specifeed Privacy Policy
Effective date: 21 July 2026 · Region: UK & Europe (specifeed.co.uk)
This policy is written for the current UK-focused service (UK GDPR / PECR) and should be reviewed whenever account features, advertising, suppliers, or business ownership details change.
1. Who controls your data
Specifeed is the controller for personal data collected through this website, unless a third-party service tells you it is acting as an independent controller.
For privacy rights, data corrections, supplier data questions, and account data requests, contact data@specifeed.co.uk. For general enquiries, contact hello@specifeed.co.uk. For commercial partnerships, contact partners@specifeed.co.uk.
2. What we collect
Account data: email address, sign-in provider, authentication identifiers, session records, and basic profile details you choose to provide.
Pet profile data: pet name, species, breed, date of birth, weight, diet needs, excluded ingredients, notes, favourites, alerts, and other details you choose to save.
Search and product-use data: searches, filters, favourites, comparisons, alert preferences, retailer clicks, product correction reports, and support messages.
Technical data: IP address, approximate location derived from IP, device and browser details, pages visited, timestamps, security events, performance data, and error logs.
Email data: messages you send to us, email delivery status, and authentication email events needed to send sign-in links or service messages.
First-party analytics events may record path, device class, referrer, and outbound click metadata without intentional email or free-text personal notes in the payload.
3. Why we use it
To provide the website, account sign-in, pet profiles, favourites, comparisons, saved alerts, and product search features.
To match products to the filters or pet profile details you choose to use. Specifeed does not diagnose illness, prescribe diets, or replace veterinary advice.
To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, troubleshoot errors, measure performance, improve product coverage, and respond to enquiries.
To send service emails such as sign-in links, account messages, alert notifications, and replies to support or data requests.
To understand aggregate usage, maintain retailer data quality, and disclose affiliate or sponsored links clearly when they are enabled.
4. Product, brand and editorial data
We collect and process public product, brand and retailer information so we can build the searchable comparison catalogue. This may include product names, pack variants, ingredients, analytical constituents, images, price, currency, stock, retailer URLs, timestamps and source-page metadata.
We use automated extraction, matching, deduplication and deterministic classification to organise that information. We keep source and update context so records can be corrected, reviewed or protected from later automated changes. This processing is about catalogue data and does not create a medical profile about you.
Brand pages and guides may link to the original brand, retailer, veterinary or standards source. Once you leave Specifeed, the destination’s privacy notice and data practices apply.
5. Lawful bases
Contract: to provide account features, saved pets, favourites, alerts, and requested service communications.
Legitimate interests: to secure, debug, improve, and operate the website; to prevent misuse; to maintain accurate comparison data; and to respond to non-marketing enquiries.
Consent: for optional marketing, optional non-essential cookies, and any optional use where consent is requested in the interface.
Legal obligation: where records must be kept or disclosed to comply with applicable law, regulator requests, disputes, or fraud prevention duties.
6. Pet health and diet context
Pet profile data can reveal sensitive context about an animal's health or diet. It is not special category personal data about a human by default, but we still treat it carefully because it can be personal to the owner.
Only add pet notes you are comfortable storing. Do not add another person's personal data unless you have permission or another lawful basis.
7. Cookies, analytics, and ads
Essential cookies and similar storage may be used for sign-in, security, session management, load balancing, and fraud prevention.
The site uses Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights to understand aggregate usage and performance. These services are intended to be privacy-conscious, but they can still involve technical data such as page URL, device details, and timing information.
First-party event logging (page views, outbound clicks) supports operations and affiliate quality. It is designed not to store emails or free-text personal content in event metadata.
Google AdSense or other advertising may be enabled only where configured. Non-essential advertising, tracking, or marketing cookies should be controlled through consent where required by UK PECR and UK GDPR.
You can control cookies through your browser. If a cookie preference tool is added, it will be the best place to change non-essential choices for this site.
8. Suppliers and sharing
We use trusted suppliers to host, authenticate, store, email, monitor, and measure the service. Current or planned suppliers include Vercel for hosting, analytics and speed insights; Supabase for authentication and database services; and Resend or Supabase email services for service emails.
Retailer links take you to third-party websites. Their privacy notices apply once you leave Specifeed.
If affiliate links, ads, or partner feeds are enabled, we may share click, attribution, or reporting data needed to run those programmes. We do not sell pet profile data.
We may disclose information where required by law, to protect users or animals from harm, to investigate abuse, or in connection with a business transfer such as restructuring, sale, or merger.
9. International transfers
Some suppliers may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy regulations, standard contractual clauses, supplier data processing terms, or equivalent lawful transfer mechanisms.
10. Retention
Account, pet profile, favourites, and alert data are kept while your account is active or until you delete them, unless we need to retain limited records for security, legal, or dispute reasons.
Security, diagnostic, and server logs are kept for a limited period appropriate to security and troubleshooting needs.
First-party analytics events are retained for a limited operational window (target ~90 days for raw events) and may be rotated with admin data-rotation tools.
Support, correction, privacy, and partnership messages may be retained for a reasonable period so we can evidence how requests were handled.
Aggregated or de-identified analytics may be retained for service improvement where it no longer identifies you.
11. Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, object to processing, request portability, and withdraw consent.
To make a request, email data@specifeed.co.uk. We may need to verify your identity before acting on account or pet profile data.
You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office if you are unhappy with how your data is handled. We ask that you contact us first so we can try to fix the issue.
12. Children
Specifeed is intended for adults managing pet food choices. Children should not create accounts or submit personal data without a parent or guardian.
13. Changes
We will update this policy when the service, suppliers, data uses, ads, cookies, or account features materially change. The effective date will show when the current version applies.
