Hydrolysed Cat Food

Hydrolysed diets use proteins that have been broken into smaller fragments. They are used in some veterinary elimination and sensitivity investigations, but the word alone does not prove that a food is suitable for a particular cat.

A proper elimination trial is controlled: your vet may specify the diet, duration, treats, supplements and household feeding rules. A cat eating other foods during the trial can make the result difficult to interpret.

Read the food’s stated purpose as well as its composition. A product can contain a hydrolysed ingredient for a purpose other than an allergy investigation. Finding that word in an ingredient list does not establish that the whole recipe meets your vet’s elimination-diet plan. For example, Hill’s describes c/d Multicare Stress with Chicken as a urinary food containing a milk protein hydrolysate for stress support. That ingredient is not evidence that this urinary product is interchangeable with an allergy diet. Confirm the full product name before using a search result as a shortlist.

Write down the recommended product name and food form, then record each retailer’s exact pack, delivered price and last stock check. Keep flavour and recipe changes separate from pack-size choices. A 2kg bag and a two-bag bundle can be compared as shopping options only after you have confirmed that they contain the same approved recipe.
