Start with the condition, not the marketing word

The most useful comparison is between exact products for the same species, life stage and clinical objective. A dog needing an elimination diet may need a different approach from a dog needing weight, joint or gastrointestinal support.

What the comparison can and cannot do

We can surface product facts, current prices and retailer availability. We cannot diagnose a dog, prescribe a diet or confirm that a product is appropriate for an individual patient.

Check the variant before choosing a bigger bag

A dog-food range may offer different recipes, life stages and pack sizes. Separate those choices before comparing cost. Two bags of the same recipe are a pack comparison; an adult recipe and a puppy recipe are not just two sizes of the same food. Record the exact product your vet recommended and use it to check retailer titles that have been shortened.

A larger bag may lower the cost per kilogram while increasing the amount you must store. Check the current storage instructions and how much of the bag your dog will use. The calculator estimates days from your entered portion; it does not tell you how much to feed.

Plan for repeat orders rather than the headline discount

Write down the normal price, first-order discount, delivery charge and minimum order. If a subscription is offered, check the repeat price and cancellation terms at the retailer. Compare the same delivery frequency and quantity; a large introductory order is not evidence of a lasting saving.

  • Check whether the displayed price covers one bag or a multibuy.
  • Confirm the exact replacement with your vet if the product disappears.
  • Keep recipe changes separate from retailer changes in your feeding record.

Focused product matching

Specifeed narrows the catalogue to specialist foods for dogs, then lets you compare price, stock, food form, life stage and retailer availability from one search flow.
